Support Material for IRTF run 2009A035

The follow links give the postions and rates for Saturn and the angular offsets between Saturn and Titan. The data from JPL has notes on units etc at the bottom of each file.

The pages were generated using the JPL solar system dynamics page

Titan/Saturn offsets in 5 minute intervals:

VMAG=8

Click on link below for table of Titan/Saturn offsets:

06/2009: Titan-Saturn Offsets (5min intervals) [direct from JPL]

Columns are:
  • Data and Time (UTC/GMT) [NB. UTC = Hawaii Time + 10hrs]
  • RA of Titan
  • Dec of Titan
  • X: (RA_titan - RA_saturn)*COS(DEC_saturn) [Units: ARCSECONDS]
  • Y: (DEC_titan-DEC_saturn) [Units: ARCSECONDS]
  • PANG: position angle [Units: DEGREES]
  • Titan-Saturn angular separation and visibility.[Units: ARCSECONDS] (NB. This is always positive)

    USE: guide on Titan and use the X/Y offsets to centre on Saturn

    Iapetus/Saturn offsets in 5 minute intervals:

    VMAG=11

    Click on link below for table of Iapetus/Saturn offsets:

    06/2009: Iapetus-Saturn Offsets (5min intervals) [direct from JPL]

    Columns are:
  • Data and Time (UTC/GMT) [NB. UTC = Hawaii Time + 10hrs]
  • RA of Iapetus
  • Dec of Iapetus
  • X: (RA_Iapetus - RA_saturn)*COS(DEC_saturn) [Units: ARCSECONDS]
  • Y: (DEC_Iapetus-DEC_saturn) [Units: ARCSECONDS]
  • PANG: position angle [Units: DEGREES]
  • Iapetus-Saturn angular separation and visibility.[Units: ARCSECONDS] (NB. This is always positive)

    USE: guide on Iapetus and use the X/Y offsets to centre on Saturn

    If additional dates/information is required:

  • Go to http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/horizons.cgi
  • Look at the "Current Settings" section.
  • Click on "[change]" to change parameters to the following:
  • Change "Ephemeris Type" to "OBSERVER".
  • Change "Target Body" to "Titan" [or "Saturn"].
  • Change "Observer Location" to "Mauna Kea" (in the observatories list).
  • Change "Time Span" to your required times in UTC (i.e. GMT) the format is "2008-01-20 04:00" for example and set interval to 5 minutes.
  • Change "Table Setting" to "Qunatities=1,6,12" (Titan) or "Qunatities=1,3,13,17" (Saturn) by ticking the appropriate boxes (tick more if required). Also tick the "extra precision" box.
  • Click on the "Generate Ephemeris" button
